Federal Debt now $9 TRILLION!
Posted by Minister of Information on Thursday, 29 March 2007
From •Cnn.com•, the head of the General Accounting Office is travelling the nation warning about the dangers of the federal debt, which has reached the staggering figure of $9 trillion.
Absolutely unconscionable. Every politician in Washington should be put on trial for malfeasence. Starting with the Idiot-In-Chief and his demonic lackies.
An excerpt:
By Kyle Almond
CNN(CNN) — He has recently made stops in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, giving speeches and holding town hall meetings. But he’s not seeking the presidency.
David M. Walker, the nation’s top accountant, is instead touring the country to warn Americans about the consequences of a federal debt he says is on an unsustainable course.
Walker, who heads the General Accountability Office (GAO), has visited college campuses, spoken to lawmakers in Washington and toured 19 states in the last year and a half.
He plans to continue through next year and is focusing on states that could affect the 2008 presidential race, in hopes that candidates will heed his message.
“If [the candidates] don’t make [the debt] one of their top three priorities, in my opinion, they don’t deserve to be president and we can’t afford for them to be president,” he told CNN.
The federal debt has soared during the last two decades — from $2.13 trillion in 1986 to $5.22 trillion in 1996 and $8.51 trillion in 2006.
The federal debt now stands near $9 trillion.
The way programs such as Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare are structured, the government will incur an additional debt of $50 trillion during the next 20 years, according to GAO figures.
The $50 trillion total amounts to about $440,000 per American household, Walker said.
The primary drivers behind the additional rise in spending are the baby boomers, who start becoming eligible for Social Security in 2008 and Medicare in 2011.
“We are talking about an unprecedented change in the demographic landscape of America,” Walker said. “And we are not prepared for this oncoming wave.”

Ten Greatest Media Hoaxes
Posted by Minister of Information on Thursday, 29 March 2007
•Check out this list• of the top ten April Fool’s Day jokes in the world media. And no, WMDs in Iraq did not make the list (but wouldn’t that be a great explanation?)
A sample:
— In 1957, a BBC television show announced that thanks to a mild winter and the virtual elimination of the spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. Footage of Swiss farmers pulling strands of spaghetti from trees prompted a barrage of calls from people wanting to know how to grow their own spaghetti at home.

God Makes It Easier to Kill
Posted by Minister of Information on Wednesday, 28 March 2007
According to new research, belief that “God” is on one’s side makes it easier for people (or nations) to engage in war. Take a moment and read the article •at ABCNews.com•, it’s well worth the read!
This is, of course, no surprise to me at all.
An excerpt:
March 27, 2007 — Does believing that “God is on our side” make it easier for us to inflict pain and suffering on those perceived to be our enemies? If we think God sanctions violence, are we more likely to engage in violent acts?
The answer to both those questions, according to new research, is a resounding “yes,” even among those who do not consider themselves believers.
Social psychologist Brad Bushman of the University of Michigan led an international research effort to find answers to these questions, and said he is very “disturbed” by the results, though he found what he had expected. Bushman has spent 20 years studying aggression and violence, especially the impact on human behavior of violence in the media, but most previous research has focused on television and movie violence, not such things as scriptures and texts held sacred by many.
He wanted to take it a step further and see if simply exposing someone to a text that implies God sanctions violence would increase their level of aggression.
Fought in the Name of God
“I think many people use God as their justification for violent and aggressive actions,” Bushman said. “Take the current conflict in Iraq as an example. Bush claims that God is on his side. Osama bin Laden claims that God, or Allah, is on his side.”
History is replete with other examples of wars fought in the name of God, involving nearly every religion on the planet.

More Words of Wisdom
Posted by Minister of Information on Tuesday, 27 March 2007

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
– Theodore Roosevelt
