Funny stuff. Oh, and politics. But I repeat myself.

Days of Sorrow

Posted by Minister of Information on Saturday, 12 January 2008

This week, the mother of a close and dear friend of mine passed away unexpectedly.

A sudden loss is always difficult. My friend’s mother was a warm, friendly and caring woman with a bright smile and a big heart. Whenever she asked how I was doing over the last 25 years, it was never small-talk. She inquired out of genuine interest, and always responded with grace and encouragement. Always encouragement.

Our society tends to laud those who have achieved great wealth, as if material acquisitiveness were a virtue. It most certainly is not. I believe that the memories and happiness that one leaves behind is so much more important than the material. I believe the highest honor one can achieve is that one will be missed after exiting this mortal coil.

Thus I say to my friend’s mother: You will be missed.
