As you have I’m sure already heard, the actor Heath Ledger has died at the age of 28. How very, very sad. I found him to be an excellent actor in the few films I’ve seen of his.
He starred, of course, in the single most emotionally affecting film I have ever seen, Brokeback Mountain. He portrayed with incredible skill a man confused and afraid of his homosexuality, and isolated because of it. I think that very few actors — especially one so young — could have given such a powerhouse performance.
He apparently suffered from depression and drug abuse in recent years. According to press reports, close friends had tried to get him to seek help, but he refused. I am sad to hear of his passing, and sorrier still that we shall miss many years of wonderful performances from a skilled and talented actor.
Update: How is it that Heath Ledger is dead, and Paris Hilton still remains, wasting all of that oxygen? I suppose life is simply unfair.
