Response to a Comment on a Palin Post

Posted by Minister of Information on Tuesday, 2 September 2008

As we all know, I’ve been having some fun at Governor Sarah Palin’s expense this week, mainly because I am still stunned at what a bad choice John McCain made in selecting her as his running mate.

One of the Sarah Palin related posts on Zalandria received this thoughtful, interesting and in NO WAY hysterical comment:

Sara Says:
Tuesday, 2 September 2008 at 1:38 pm edit
If you’re going to go on & on about your idiotic, senseless, uneducated, completely closed & biased, democratic views, and you seemingly want to be taken seriously as you spend countless hours scouring the internet for items such as these…

…perhaps you should make a tiny effort to seem somewhat intelligent. Postings such as these makes you seem as though you’re desperately grasping at straws.

And people like yourself is why I’m a 28 year old woman proudly supporting and voting for McCain/Palin.

Well, Sara, here’s my response:

#1. I never opposed Sarah Palin because she is a woman. I said in an earlier post that I thought it was a step in the right direction for a candidate to choose a female running mate (and loooong overdue, to my mind.)

#2. I never pretended to be anything other than a Democrat; although I dispute the “idiotic, senseless, uneducated” charge, as I have a Ph.D. in American political history, so I do assert that I have some idea of what I’m talking about.

#3. During my podcasting days (as some readers can confirm) I was very hard on the failings of the Democrats in charge of Congress.

#3. I oppose Palin because of her extreme unreadiness to become president if necessary, as well as her bizarre social views, including (but not limited to):
• Against a women’s right to choose
• Opposes sex education in the classroom
• Opposes the use of birth control and condoms EVEN for married people
• Pro-gun

#4. Why exactly, Sara, are you voting for McCain/Palin? Is it because she is a woman? Or something else? Voting for any candidate simply based on their sex is idiotic and senseless.

#5. You are certainly entitled to your own opinion, but so am I. If you don’t like Zalandria, then don’t read it. If, however, you would like to comment further, or even email me some text to make a post on Zalandria under your byline for you, I’d be happy to hear from you.

#6. I have no need of “grasping at straws” because Obama is going to win in a landslide. McCain’s choice has made that all the more certain.

#7. If you spend time as I do reading various political websites, you would know that while Republicans are defending Palin in public, privately they are in a full-blown panic.

I look forward to more reactions!

OH, and based on the latest news, I wouldn’t click ••this link••. I warned you!

More on McCain/Palin

Posted by Minister of Information on Tuesday, 2 September 2008

From a great site, Politicalwire.com:

ARG Poll: Obama Leads By Six Points
A new American Research Group poll finds Sen. Barack Obama leading Sen. John McCain nationwide among likely voters, 49% to 43%.

Key findings: Obama leads 88% to 5% among self-described Democrats, McCain leads 83% to 11% among self-described Republicans, and Obama leads 45% to 43% among self-described independents likely to vote on November 4.

Finally, 63% of McCain voters say McCain is the only candidate they would vote for and 57% of Obama voters say Obama is the only candidate they would vote for. 40% of all likely voters say they would never vote for McCain and 40% say they would never vote for Obama. 85% of McCain voters say they would never vote for Obama and 81% of Obama voters say they would never vote for McCain.

Bonus Quote of the Day
“I think I can say with authority that the prisoner of war experience is not a good prerequisite for President.”

– Philip Butler, who served as a prisoner of war in Vietnam with John McCain.

    More Updates on previous posts:

#1. Yes, the bikini and rifle picture is photoshopped … but it’s still funny, no?

#2. Palin’s daughter IS pregnant. How interesting. Things still are somewhat up in the air over the faked pregnancy issue.

#3. Will there be an October Surprise for McCain/Palin? (And no, I don’t mean Bush attacking Iran; I mean the damaging kind of surprise — not the desperate last-minute scare the hell out of people into voting for a senile old man and a person less qualified than Dan frickin’ Quayle).

An excerpt:

‘October Surprise’ Over Palin Investigation?
“Likely Damaging” Report on Governor Scheduled for Release Days Before November Election
By BRIAN ROSS and LEN TEPPER

Is the McCain campaign afraid of an ‘October surprise’ involving vice-presidential pick Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska?

he Alaska state senator running an investigation of Gov. Palin says the McCain campaign is using stall tactics to prevent him from releasing his final report by Oct. 31, four days before the November election.

“It’s likely to be damaging to the Governor,” said Senator Hollis French, a Democrat, appointed the project manager for a bi-partisan State Senate Legislative Counsel Committee investigation of claims that Palin abused her office to get the Alaska public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, fired.

Palin, who has denied any wrongdoing and has said she has nothing to hide, hired private lawyers on Saturday, the day after Sen. McCain announced her as his running mate.

“Until then, the Governor used state lawyers and everything was fine,” said Sen. French.

“That’s wrong,” said a spokesperson for the McCain campaign, Brian Rogers.

“The attorney was hired by the state Department of Law weeks ago, as part of the official duty to defend the governor,” said Roger, and “obviously had nothing to do with either the McCain campaign.”

A team of McCain campaign operatives arrived in Anchorage over the weekend “to help coordinate” her vice-presidential campaign, according to a McCain campaign official.

#4. Defending Sarah Palin’s experience… [Expect lots of this in the coming days]

#5. Alaska is Close to Russia, thus she has national security experience.
