Palin’s Disastrous Speech

Posted by Minister of Information on Wednesday, 3 September 2008

She’s still speaking, but this is a pretty bad speech. Her delivery is flat, her applause lines are not that great (with one or two exceptions) and she’s speaking a bunch of patriotic babble that doesn’t explain why she’s qualified to become Vice President. Indeed, the audience doesn’t seem to know when to applaud because her delivery is so god-awful.

She’s talking policies, but not about herself and her qualities and qualifications (beyond being a “hockey mom,” whatever that means.)

I honestly think this won’t go over well with the commentators when she’s done. It’s mostly fluff … even more so than is usual in a given political speech.

We’ll just have to see when it’s over.

OH, and I have a question: if McCain and Palin are basing their run on standing up against their own party, doesn’t that mean they are in the wrong party?

Commentators Caught on Mic about Palin

Posted by Minister of Information on Wednesday, 3 September 2008

Republican commentators are NOT happy about the Palin choice…

I have always loved Peggy Noonan, and I always will….

From ABCNews Online:

September 03, 2008 5:59 PM
It seems that Republicans Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy were caught in a bit of unguarded conversation today and someone posted the moment to YouTube.

Noonan, a former speechwriter to Ronald Reagan and a Wall Street Journal columnist, and Murphy, a longtime GOP campaign strategist, had been guests on MSNBC when host Chuck Todd breaks for a commercial. The camera cuts to a wideshot, but the audio continues for another couple of minutes, as the GOPers debate the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate, including:

Murphy: It’s not going to work.

Noonan: It’s over.

Murphy: But still McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.

Todd: I think this was insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson… She’s never looked comfortable with this.

Murphy: they’re all bummed out

Todd: I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?

Noonan: The most qualified? No. I would think they went for the, excuse me, political bulls**t about narratives…

Noonan: Every time Republicans do that, because that’s not where they live and it’s not what they’re good at, they blow it.

Murphy: You know what’s really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism and this is cynical.

God Wanted the U.S. to Invade Iraq

Posted by Minister of Information on Wednesday, 3 September 2008

According to Gov. Sarah Palin, God wanted us to invade Iraq — and, of course, build a natural gas pipeline.

I’ve refrained from saying this, BUT THIS WOMAN IS CERTIFIABLY NUTS and she is a FASCIST in the mold of Bush and Cheney.

More on Palin

…from Politicalwire.com, which you SHOULD READ EVERY DAY!

Palin Not Helping McCain with Women Voters
A new survey conducted for EMILY’s List suggests Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is not helping the Republican ticket with female voters. Among all women surveyed, Obama-Biden leads McCain-Palin, 53% to 35%.

When asked how the running mates were picked, half of those surveyed said Obama chose Biden based on his experience, while 29% said he was chosen for political reasons. Meanwhile, 20% said McCain chose Palin for experience and 59% said his pick was for political purposes.

Key finding: A 55% majority of women voters who backed Sen. Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary say that Palin’s inclusion on the ticket makes them less likely to vote for McCain; just 9% say her presence on the ticket makes them more likely to support McCain.

Quote of the Day
“There’s no middle ground on this for John McCain. She is either going to be a wild success or a spectacular failure.”

– Former Bush aide Dan Bartlett, quoted by the Los Angeles Times, on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Aides Admit Palin Lacked Sufficient Vetting
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin “was not subjected to a lengthy in-person background interview with the head of Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential vetting team until last Wednesday in Arizona, the day before McCain asked her to be his running mate, and she did not disclose the fact that her 17-year-old daughter was pregnant until that meeting,” the Washington Post reports.

McCain Campaign Controls Access to Palin
Sen. John McCain’s campaign “scrambled to take control of the public debate over vice-presidential pick Sarah Palin, canceling her public appearances and teaming her with high-powered Republican operatives as she prepared for a speech Wednesday night that will be her first, and perhaps most important, chance to define herself to the American public,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Campaign officials were heartened by the strong support the Alaska governor continued to receive in the halls of their nominating convention here… But Republican officials remained nervous about how the choice was playing in the country as a whole.”

The Washington Post says Palin “has been holed up” in her hotel while a parade of McCain’s top advisers “have briefed her on the nuances of his policy positions, national politics and, above all, how to introduce herself to the national audience she will address Wednesday night at the Republican convention.”
