Bush Should Not Be Allowed To Slip Out of Town

Posted by Minister of Information on Wednesday, 31 December 2008

I could not have put this better myself!

From The New York Times:

OP-ED COLUMNIST

Add Up the Damage

By BOB HERBERT
Published: December 29, 2008

Does anyone know where George W. Bush is?

You don’t hear much from him anymore. The last image most of us remember is of the president ducking a pair of size 10s that were hurled at him in Baghdad.

We’re still at war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Israel is thrashing the Palestinians in Gaza. And the U.S. economy is about as vibrant as the 0-16 Detroit Lions.

But hardly a peep have we heard from George, the 43rd.

When Mr. Bush officially takes his leave in three weeks (in reality, he checked out long ago), most Americans will be content to sigh good riddance. I disagree. I don’t think he should be allowed to slip quietly out of town. There should be a great hue and cry — a loud, collective angry howl, demonstrations with signs and bullhorns and fiery speeches — over the damage he’s done to this country.

This is the man who gave us the war in Iraq and Guantánamo and torture and rendition; who turned the Clinton economy and the budget surplus into fool’s gold; who dithered while New Orleans drowned; who trampled our civil liberties at home and ruined our reputation abroad; who let Dick Cheney run hog wild and thought Brownie was doing a heckuva job.

The Bush administration specialized in deceit. How else could you get the public (and a feckless Congress) to go along with an invasion of Iraq as an absolutely essential response to the Sept. 11 attacks, when Iraq had had nothing to do with the Sept. 11 attacks?

Exploiting the public’s understandable fears, Mr. Bush made it sound as if Iraq was about to nuke us: “We cannot wait,” he said, “for the final proof — the smoking gun that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.”

He then set the blaze that has continued to rage for nearly six years, consuming more than 4,000 American lives and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. (A car bomb over the weekend killed two dozen more Iraqis, many of them religious pilgrims.) The financial cost to the U.S. will eventually reach $3 trillion or more, according to the Nobel laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz.

A year into the war Mr. Bush was cracking jokes about it at the annual dinner of the Radio and Television Correspondents Association. He displayed a series of photos that showed him searching the Oval Office, peering behind curtains and looking under the furniture. A mock caption had Mr. Bush saying: “Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere.”

And then there’s the Bush economy, another disaster, a trapdoor through which middle-class Americans can plunge toward the bracing experiences normally reserved for the poor and the destitute.

Mr. Bush traveled the country in the early days of his presidency, promoting his tax cut plans as hugely beneficial to small-business people and families of modest means. This was more deceit. The tax cuts would go overwhelmingly to the very rich.

The president would give the wealthy and the powerful virtually everything they wanted. He would throw sand into the regulatory apparatus and help foster the most extreme income disparities since the years leading up to the Great Depression. Once again he was lighting a fire. This time the flames would engulf the economy and, as with Iraq, bring catastrophe.

If the U.S. were a product line, it would be seen now as deeply damaged goods, subject to recall.

There seemed to be no end to Mr. Bush’s talent for destruction. He tried to hand the piggy bank known as Social Security over to the marauders of the financial sector, but saner heads prevailed.

In New Orleans, the president failed to intervene swiftly and decisively to aid the tens of thousands of poor people who were very publicly suffering and, in many cases, dying. He then compounded this colossal failure of leadership by traveling to New Orleans and promising, in a dramatic, floodlit appearance, to spare no effort in rebuilding the flood-torn region and the wrecked lives of the victims.

He went further, vowing to confront the issue of poverty in America “with bold action.”

It was all nonsense, of course. He did nothing of the kind.

The catalog of his transgressions against the nation’s interests — sins of commission and omission — would keep Mr. Bush in a confessional for the rest of his life. Don’t hold your breath. He’s hardly the contrite sort.

He told ABC’s Charlie Gibson: “I don’t spend a lot of time really worrying about short-term history. I guess I don’t worry about long-term history, either, since I’m not going to be around to read it.”

The president chuckled, thinking — as he did when he made his jokes about the missing weapons of mass destruction — that there was something funny going on.

Bush Administration Whistleblower Killed

Posted by Minister of Information on Sunday, 21 December 2008

Wow. Why doesn’t this surprise me at all?

From Yahoo! News:

Bush Insider Who Planned To Tell All Killed In Plane Crash: Non-Profit Demands Full Federal Investigation

To: STATE EDITORS
Contact: Ilene Proctor PR, +1-310-858-6643

WASHINGTON, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Michael Connell, the Bush IT expert who has been directly implicated in the rigging of George Bush’s 2000 and 2004 elections, was killed last night when his single engine plane crashed three miles short of the Akron airport. Velvet Revolution (“VR”), a non-profit that has been investigating Mr. Connell’s activities for the past two years, can now reveal that a person close to Mr. Connell has recently been discussing with a VR investigator how he can tell all about his work for George Bush. Mr. Connell told a close associate that he was afraid that George Bush and Dick Cheney would “throw [him] under the bus.”

A tipster close to the McCain campaign disclosed to VR in July that Mr. Connell’s life was in jeopardy and that Karl Rove had threatened him and his wife, Heather. VR’s attorney, Cliff Arnebeck, notified the United States Attorney General , Ohio law enforcement and the federal court about these threats and insisted that Mr. Connell be placed in protective custody. VR also told a close associate of Mr. Connell’s not to fly his plane because of another tip that the plane could be sabotaged. Mr. Connell, a very experienced pilot, has had to abandon at least two flights in the past two months because of suspicious problems with his plane. On December 18, 2008, Mr. Connell flew to a small airport outside of Washington DC to meet some people. It was on his return flight the next day that he crashed.

On October 31, Mr. Connell appeared before a federal judge in Ohio after being subpoenaed in a federal lawsuit investigating the rigging of the 2004 election under the direction of Karl Rove. The judge ordered Mr. Connell to testify under oath at a deposition on November 3rd, the day before the presidential election. Velvet Revolution received confidential information that the White House was extremely concerned about Mr. Connell talking about his illegal work for the White House and two Bush/Cheney 04 attorneys were dispatched to represent him.

An associate of Mr. Connell’s told VR that Mr. Connell was involved with the destruction of the White House emails and the setting up of the off-grid White House email system.

Mr. Connell handled all of John McCain’s computer work in the recent presidential campaign. VR has received direct evidence that the McCain campaign kept abreast of the legal developments against Mr. Connell by reading the VR dedicated website, www.rovecybergate.com.

VR demands that the Ohio Attorney General and the United States Justice Department conduct a complete investigation into the activities of Mr. Connell and determine whether there was any foul play in his death. VR demands that federal law enforcement officials place the following people under protective custody pending this investigation.

Heather Connell who is the owner of GovTech Solutions, Randy Cole, the former President of GovTech Solutions, and Jeff Averbeck, the CEO of SmartTech in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Both GovTech and SmartTech have been implicated in the rigging of the 2000 and 2004 elections and the White House email scandal. Our prior request to have Mr. Connell protected went unheeded and now he is dead.

A Comment From A Reader [UPDATED]

Posted by Minister of Information on Tuesday, 16 December 2008

[UPDATE - See image below. It is historically accurate.]

I recently received an email concerning an earlier image post. Here is the letter:

I think it’s great how you put a picture of an Atheist right next to an Obama 08 ad.

We Christians couldn’t agree more, Obama isn’t a Christian (it takes more than words) it’s about what you believe.

Thoughts about atheism and more:

By the way, if these is no God (and no cosmic justice that we are accountable to), why should anyone ever care about the suffering, pain, or death any other person or animal goes through. These things would all be just events with no moral meaning either way. Only God makes things right or wrong, nothing else can or ever has.

Without God, you would be just another dumb animal and nothing you say or do would have any impact on anything except more dumb animals, why should I on anyone else care about the ramblings of a dumb animal.

Without God, murder can’t be wrong – It’s just animal behavior.

Without God there would be no point in charity, kindness, or any of the other noble qualities humans posses. They would all be just conditioned responses to our environment.

By the way, animals don’t die trying to save one another from harm (except paternal instinct). Example: A dog on it’s own without training would never die drowning trying to rescue another random dog that fell into a body of water (and I think we can all agree that dog’s have been trained by man to most closely follow human morals out of all animals). People do this all the time.

Only a man will, with full knowledge he is going to die, sacrifice himself to save another man. No animal will do that. That’s the quality we hold most in common with God. He sacrificed himself to save us. True Christianity and the Bible both say that Jesus is God and that he was willing to suffer physical pain, torture, and even death to save mankind.

Atheists are missing out on the best part of life – MEANING!

I hope you will stop and think about how God has and can continue to touch your life. He gave you the ability to question him and even reject him. We can only know true love when we are free to reject it. That’s part of the miracle of God. He loves you enough to let you hate or not even believe in him. It doesn’t stop him believing in you.

Take Care,
Randy Tusha
Your Fiend in Christ

Here is my response, emailed to my new friend Randy:

Dear Randy,

Thank you for writing concerning my “More Randomness” post on Zalandria.

Before I respond to your larger point, I should point out that the “athiest” cartoon was not placed directly next to the photo of the Obama rally, although I did not give much thought to the placement of the images, I confess.

I find it curious that you are able to read President-Elect Obama’s heart that way you claim to in your letter to me, when you wrote: “Obama isn’t a Christian (it takes more than words) it’s about what you believe.”

I ask you, without anger but simple interest: who are you to judge what is in a man’s heart? Does not the Bible say in Matthew 7:1 (KJV), “Judge not, that ye be not judged?” Is not President-Elect Obama’s relationship to God between himself and God? Have you personally sat down and spoken to the President-Elect about his faith? If so, what were your impressions? If not, how can you make such a statement?

Asserting that the President-Elect is not a Christian is, whether or not a realize it, one of the oldest political tricks in this nation. It is an attempt by those who disagree with him politically to undermine his ability to govern. This strikes me as both uncharitable and self-defeating. Do you not agree that, in this times of economic and military crisis, the President’s failures are our failures?

As a self-proclaimed Christian, is it not your duty to pray for the President-Elect, even if you do not agree with his politics? My relatives who are Christian have said as much, even though they do not particularly associate themselves with his political beliefs.

As to your points on atheism: you have a right to believe them if you want. That is your choice. If atheism is not right for your life, than do not be an atheist. I think it is similarly uncharitable, however, to assume that all atheists have no moral center. I have known several atheists over my lifetime, and I have found many of them to be kind, warm, and caring people who simply choose their own paths. I have known many Christians, by contrast, who were cruel and unforgiving.

I refer you to two items:

#1. In “Religion … My Views of It,” Thomas Jefferson wrote, “But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks by leg.” [see Isaac Kramnick, The Portable Enlightenment Reader, 160.]

#2. As to your point about animals not rescuing other animals, see this remarkable video on Youtube, which may change your thinking on some points: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgjyhKN_35g

I do not know if there is a “god” as human religions conceive of “him” or not. Thus I would never say that there cannot be, because I do not know. Despite this, I believe that I have led a life at least as good as those who follow a religion. I have always tried (and sometimes failed, as everyone does) to do no harm. My heart cannot contain the love I feel for my friends and my family. There is not one of them for whom I would not lay down my life if necessary, even those friends who have fallen away over the years and even those family members with whom I disagree. I did not come to this through religion.

I strongly support your right to believe in what gives your life meaning, as my fellow human and my fellow American (presumably). I think you owe others the same consideration.

Your most sincerely,
Shawn *. ******, Ph.D.

P.S. – did you mean “friend” at the end of your letter? Your wrote “fiend,” which is I’m sure unintentionally hilarious.

What’s In A Shoe?

Posted by Minister of Information on Tuesday, 16 December 2008

As you know by now, at a press conference in Baghdad, a young Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at President George Bush. Such an act is considered a grave insult in the Arab world.

Similarly, here is what Iraqis did to statues and portraits of Saddam Hussein after his fall:

I can completely understand why an Iraqi would perform such an act. After all, Iraqis has suffered greatly since the U.S. invasion of 2003. Of course, they suffered greatly under the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein as well (a figure for whom I feel no sorry whatsoever, I must add); but at least they had electricity and running water, and the whole country wasn’t left in ruins, looted by American corporations whose employees raped, pillaged, and murdered with impunity.

I ask you: how would you feel if Canada invaded the United States to topple a dictator, but did so under false pretenses, destroyed much of the nation’s infrastructure, and then refused to leave even after creating a shaky, ill-conceived regime? How would you, as an American, feel about the Canadian Prime Minister who managed to make your life worse than it was under the dictator? Would you flip him the bird, spit at his feet, or worse?

Most likely you would.

This incident is a lesson to Americans. We must start to put ourselves in the shoes of other (no pun intended) and to understand how we are seen by the world, whether such a view is fair or not.

Remember what the Wizard reminded the Tin Man at the end of “The Wizard of Oz”:

“..that a heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others.”

The United States today is reviled around the world thanks to George W. Bush. He ranks as the worst president in the history of our great nation. His imperial ambitions, driven by the heartless so-called “Neo-Cons” of the Project for a New American Century, have set this nation on the path to oblivion.

Rather than keep us safe, he — like the architects of the “strategic hamlet” program during the Vietnam War — “saved” the nation by burning it down. He tore up our civil liberties and ignored the Constitution that he swore to protect. The presidential oath of office, which he took twice, reads as follows:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

My contempt for him, and his administration, is so great I cannot contain it. I have a bitter bile in my throat. Never in my life did I imagine a president this horrendous. As elated as I was at the election of President-Elect Obama, I have cause to wonder if any one man can can undo the damage done to the nation and our reputation by President Bush.

George W. Bush is a despicable person, surrounded by men of ill intent. If I ever met him, I’d throw my shoes at him, too. It is the very least he deserves.

That Little Girl Grin

Posted by Minister of Information on Tuesday, 16 December 2008

Recently, someone posted a rather haunting photo on the internet of a young girl grinning in the most devilish way while a home burned behind her:

I found this image wonderfully creepy, as did many others. Since then, the internets have produced some interesting homages!

Iraqi Journalist Throws Shoes At Bush

Posted by Minister of Information on Sunday, 14 December 2008

During his surprise final visit to the country he illegally invaded and then destroyed, President Bush found himself the target of two shoes thrown by an Iraqi journalist.

I wish they had found their mark.

No one on earth deserves to have shoes thrown at him like our good ol’ President Bush.

I posted •the video at Daily Crazy Video•. Emjoy as I did!

The Ice Storm From Hell

Posted by Minister of Information on Friday, 12 December 2008

So last night, my (current) hometown suffered through a terrible ice-storm. I had great difficulty falling asleep, as I listened to trees and sheets of ice fall all around the house. It was rather frightful, to be honest.

When I did sleep, I had a horrible nightmare about … you guessed it … a terrible ice-storm! I even dreamed that an aeroplane (yes, that’s the British spelling, I’ve decided to be more British in my affectation) crash-landed in my living room.

Naturally, we were without power and heat for the whole night and into the morning.

Still are, as far as I know.

Here are some pictures of the devastation:
#1. Behind the house. A gigantic tree limb shattered part of the deck.

#2. Looking down one part of the street:
