Sen. John Ensign’s Letter to his Mistress [UPDATED 3x]

In February 2008, fellow senators urged Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) to end his affair with the wife of his longtime friend, as well as to help the couple pay off their mortgage. Here is his letter to his mistress. Notice how he blames his wife, and invokes God … like all of the other scummy politicians. According to the aggrieved husband, Ensign was back wooing his mistress 24 HOURS after writing this letter.

UPDATES #1 and #2: From Politicalwire:

Coburn Will Not Discuss Ensign Advice
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) said he “would not testify in court or before the Ethics Committee about any advice he gave Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) on how to handle his affair with a former staffer, citing constitutional protections for communications during religious counseling, as well as the patient confidentiality privilege,” Roll Call reports.

Said Coburn: “I was counseling him as a physician and as an ordained deacon… That is privileged communication that I will never reveal to anybody. Not to the Ethics Committee, not to a court of law, not to anybody.”

In an interview, the husband of Ensign’s mistress alleged that Coburn had proposed paying off the wronged family’s mortgage.

Wronged Husband Rips Ensign

In a must-see interview, Jon Ralston spoke to Doug Hampton, the man whose wife had an affair with Sen. John Ensign (R-NV).

Among the revelations: Ensign pursued Cynthia Hampton even after Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) urged him to end the affair, and that Ensign paid Mrs. Hampton more than $25,000 in severance when she left his staff.

UPDATE #3: From Politico:

Ensign paid $96,000 “gift” to Hamptons

Sen. John Ensign tapped his parents to pay out nearly $100,000 to the family of his mistress out of his private funds, his lawyer says in an e-mail.

The gifts, the statement says, are part of a pattern of “generosity” on the part of the senator’s family to the Hampton family, which he nearly destroyed.

Statement on behalf of Senator John Ensign:

In April 2008, Senator John Ensign’s parents each made gifts to Doug Hampton, Cindy Hampton, and two of their children in the form of a check totaling $96,000. Each gift was limited to $12,000. The payments were made as gifts, accepted as gifts and complied with tax rules governing gifts.

After the Senator told his parents about the affair, his parents decided to make the gifts out of concern for the well-being of long-time family friends during a difficult time. The gifts are consistent with a pattern of generosity by the Ensign family to the Hamptons and others.*

None of the gifts came from campaign or official funds nor were they related to any campaign or official duties. Senator Ensign has complied with all applicable laws and Senate ethics rules.

Dennis Kuchinich Nails Anti-Public Option Doctor

From the description:

I tuned into CSPAN 3 to watch the Live Stream video of the House HELP single payer hearing.

When the hearing had to temporarily adjourn for members to cast 3 votes on the House floor CSPAN 3 inserted a video of Betsy McCaughey, PhD. of the conservative Manhattan Institute speaking about the evils of single payer. When CSPAN 3 retuned to the HELP single payer hearing, the hearing was already in progress. What kind of coverage is this? Of course the video of the hearing is up now without Betsy McCaughey, PhD. of the conservative Manhattan Institute. Kind of like it never happened, but it did and I have the video to prove it.

It appears to me CSPAN 3 has taken sides on this issue and what they did is very questionable.

Dennis Kucinich kind of evened things out when set Dr. David Gratzer, Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow, straight during the hearing and that video is below, if CSPAN 3 doesn’t make me take it down.
